The Inntire-Tipi

Arrival & Getting There

  • The Meet & Greet: Please call or text us 30 minutes before you arrive. Text again once you are in the driveway.
  • The House: Look for the olive green house with the wrap-around deck.
  • Parking: Park as far to the left of the driveway as possible. Only one car is permitted per camp spot.
  • Self Check-In: When you text us 30 minutes prior, we will let you know if it is a Self Check-In. Enter through the black gate; ensure it is closed behind you to keep the farm animals in.
  • Follow the Goose Protocol: If Ryan Gosling is protective, text us and we will walk you up. Never be aggressive toward the geese.
  • The Path: Walk down the left side of the backyard, you will see it.

Operational Guide for Your Stay

  • The View & Ventilation: This is a spacious, 18-foot traditional tipi nestled in the very back of the yard, resting right before the edge of the forest trailhead and conveniently located next to the lounge. Because it is a traditional structure, the top smoke flaps do not completely close; if it rains, you might get a light sprinkle inside, but it is very minor and all part of the authentic outdoor experience.
  • The Vibe: A sacred, grounded sanctuary built with a deep emphasis on respecting indigenous culture and living in right relationship with the land. Woven with history, the structure features a vintage Boy Scout canvas cover, layered interior rugs, and warm string lights that create a peaceful, glowing atmosphere as night falls under the forest canopy.
  • The Layout & Amenities: This structure comfortably accommodates 4 to 6 guests. Inside, you will find a spacious sleeping arrangement featuring one queen bed and two twin beds. A small table lamp is provided to add a soft, warm ambiance to the space.
  • Climate Control: To keep the air moving comfortably while respecting the earth, the tipi features a small ceiling fan powered by a rechargeable solar battery.
  • Bug Control: We provide a citronella oil lamp to help keep the bugs at bay. Because this involves an open flame and liquid fuel, please be exceptionally mindful not to kick it over or disturb it while it is in use.
  • Power & Lights: There is a dedicated single charging port located inside the tipi for your devices, but we encourage an off-grid mindset to truly immerse yourself in the natural surroundings.
  • Relaxation & Cooking: While all of your primary cooking can be done in the Inntirety communal kitchen, guests staying at the tipi have direct access to the community fire pit for evening gatherings, storytelling, and stargazing.

Inntire-tipi House Rules

  • Shoes: Taking off your shoes before entering the tipi is an absolute must to honor the space.
  • Food: Strictly no food is allowed inside the tipi in order to keep the space pristine and entirely critter-free.
  • Mamma Kitty: No Mamma Kitty is allowed inside the tipi or any other enclosed structure.
  • Check-Out Ritual:
    1. Bring all personal trash to one of the forest trash bins (located outside the Inntirety lounge or by the outhouse).
    2. Turn off the solar fan, charging devices, and all lights.
    3. Strip the beds and place the used sheets neatly on top of the mattress. Thank you!

The Story of The Inntire-tipi

The presence of this traditional tipi is rooted deeply in personal history and a lifelong reverence for indigenous wisdom. I grew up in Hiawatha, Kansas—a town surrounded by native reservations. Growing up there, I had the beautiful opportunity to build close friendships with many indigenous people. Through those connections, I developed a profound respect for their way of living in perfect, reciprocal harmony with the earth. Today, I consciously implement many of those foundational teachings into our sacred forest space.

We also deeply believe in giving things new life. The cover of this 18-foot tipi is a vintage canvas Boy Scout cover. Both of my sons were scouts, and it is a little-known piece of history that Ernest Thompson Seton, a pivotal co-founder of the Boy Scouts of America, heavily integrated Native American outdoor teachings, lore, and respect for nature into the organization’s foundations. He was profoundly influenced by indigenous leaders and scouts who helped shape those early traditions. By preserving this vintage canvas, we honor that intersection of history, the scouting path of my own children, and our ongoing devotion to protecting, respecting, and listening to the land we walk upon.

🎉 Fun Fact: When we first purchased this tipi, the original canvas cover was completely in ruins. I tried my absolute hardest to clean it, but it was simply in total disrepair. Replacing it felt out of reach, as traditional covers can easily range anywhere from $500 up to $1,200.

Just a few days later, the universe stepped in. I was out running errands and happened to take a wrong turn down an alleyway in North Kansas City. As I drove past a dumpster, I noticed a pile of vintage Boy Scout relics and gear sitting right out in the open.

Curious to see if anything could be salvaged, I stopped to investigate.

To my absolute amazement, nestled in the gear were two traditional tipi covers in perfect condition! I took them home and they ended up being the exact size we needed for this space.

It was a beautiful reminder that what is meant for you will always find a way to find you.
