Dombi Den: The Sanctuary of the Outcast Goddess

Dombi Den: The Sanctuary of the Outcast Goddess

Arrival & Getting There

  • The Meet & Greet: Please call or text us 30 minutes before you arrive. Text again once you are in the driveway.
  • The House: Look for the olive green house with the wrap-around deck.
  • Parking: Park as far to the left of the driveway as possible. Only one car is permitted per camp spot.
  • Self Check-In: When you text us 30 minutes prior, we will let you know if it is a Self Check-In. Enter through the black gate; ensure it is closed behind you to keep the farm animals in.
  • Follow the Goose Protocol: If Ryan Gosling is protective, text us and we will walk you up. Never be aggressive toward the geese.
  • The Path: Walk down the left side of the backyard, past the Tipi and the Lounge.
  • The Forest Entrance: Stand before the two lions at the trailhead. You can perform the “Honoring the Spirit of the Forest” ritual. Walk in and ring the chimes.
  • Finding Dombi Den: Walk down the trail until you meet the fork in the path. To the right is the Forest Barrel Sauna. To the left is the trail with all of the camp spots. Walk to the left past the compost toilet and Wendy’s Treehouse. The next spot on the right side of the path is Dombi Den.

Operational Guide for Your Stay

  • The View: This 12-foot yurt bell tent offers a beautifully grounded, circular space that keeps you intimately connected to the surrounding canopy and forest floor.
  • Ventilation & Rolling the Walls: For maximum airflow and fresh energy, the side walls can be fully opened for 360-degree ventilation. Follow these steps carefully to open them:
    1. Unhook the base: Go around the outside and unhook the loops from the hook pins staked into the ground. Ensure you unhook all of them first before rolling.
    2. Roll the canvas: Gently roll the canvas walls upward toward the ceiling.
    3. Secure the walls: Fasten the rolled canvas securely using the upper ceiling loops located on the outside of the tent frame.
  • The Screen Door: When unclipping or zipping the mesh screen door, please be very careful and gentle. Do not force the clips or zippers at any time.
  • Power & Lights: There are two battery-operated lanterns and a black fan/light combo attached to the center pole. There is also a white ceiling fan that is rechargeable. We will provide you with a small solar battery pack to recharge the fans if necessary.
  • Crucial: To charge your solar pack, place it outside of the yurt in the direct sunlight. Please turn off all lights and fans when not in use to conserve battery life.
  • Heating/Cooking: An outdoor fire pit and small bbq grill are provided at the site. Always ask if burning conditions are okay before starting a fire. The bbq grill can be used at anytime but it is crucial that you don’t leave burning charcoals.
  • Bug Control: Use incense inside and outside the tent for bug control. Be highly mindful of mesh screens when entering and exiting to keep the space clear.
  • Relaxation: Take advantage of the peaceful woodland clearing around the tent. Enjoy the dedicated outdoor seating layout designed for meditation, breathwork, and deep relaxation.

Dombi Den House Rules

  • Shoes: Taking off shoes is a must. No shoes permitted inside the bell tent.
  • Food: Strictly no food in the sleeping space to keep local wildlife outside.
  • Mamma Kitty: No mamma kitty in the house.
  • Check-Out: 1. Bring all trash up to the bins in the driveway. 2. Turn off all lights. 3. Very Important: Place the solar battery pack in its designated outdoor charging position so it can prep for the next guest.

The Story of Dombi Den

  • The Outcast Goddess: In the social structure of ancient times, the Dom (or Dombi) was a woman from the lowest caste, often living on the outskirts of society, working in cremation grounds, or making baskets and mats. In the Tantric story, the Dombi is the “Untouchable” Wisdom. She lives in a “hut” outside the town, representing a state of being completely outside the ego and social conditioning. The story goes that the high-caste scholars and priests cannot reach enlightenment because they are bound by rigid rules, but the Siddha (the perfected yogi) deliberately seeks out the Dombi. By “uniting” with her, the seeker breaks all social and mental chains, realizing that the divine is found in the very places society rejects.
  • Dombi as the Kundalini Shakti: In the internal yoga of the body, “Dombi” is a code word for the Kundalini Shakti. Her “lowly” origin mirrors the energy sitting at the very base of the spine (Muladhara), the lowest point of the subtle body. Through transformation, when the yogi awakens this energy, she ceases to be an outcast and becomes the Sahaja-Sundari (the Innately Beautiful One). The spiritual journey culminates in the “Marriage of the Dombi,” where she travels up the central channel to unite with pure consciousness at the crown of the head.
  • The Space: We set up “Dombi Den” in honor of a beloved hen named Dombi, carrying forward that same spirit of sacred, unfiltered boundary-breaking. It is a 12-foot sanctuary positioned intentionally on the edge of the path—designed as a space to step out of the everyday world, roll back the walls, and awaken your own innate beauty.
